When Ryan Fischer and his wife Ester Tsenter were looking for a nonprofit organization to support through their arm of The Green Fischer Family Trust the couple had some very specific criteria in mind.
“Equality is important to me,” said Ester, who holds a degree in chemical engineering and biosciences. “Gender equality, equality for minorities, and equality in terms of basic rights like access to clean water. And that led to Water First.”
Ryan and Ester had followed news stories and social media posts highlighting the challenges that many Indigenous communities face in accessing clean, safe water. Water First’s training and education model appealed to the couple, who were looking for an organization that could help support long-term solutions in partnership with Indigenous communities.
“Water First is unique in the way that it’s not just a short-term solution to provide a limited supply of drinking water,” said Ester, “members of the community are being trained to manage water systems which ensures clean water for the long-term .”
The couple, who love to spend time playing chess and tennis and hanging out with their dog, Bennie, is happy to share that working with Water First has been a great experience. “We love what Water First stands for,” said Ester. Added Ryan, “We really trust that (Water First) will be able to use (this donation) in the way that it is most needed.”

Ester adds that in all the work they consider on behalf of the Green Fisher Family Trust, their guiding principle remains the same: “No one should get their second helping before everyone has their first.”
A big thank you from everyone on the Water First team to Ryan, Ester and The Green Fischer Family Trust for filling our cups in more ways than one.
